07 up (as long as it is the same body style) is a gen4 block. As for a gen 3 working it can, but requires a lot more work than it is worth imho.

The gen IV truck engines have the cam sensor in the front cover versus at the rear for the gen III, also the gen IV has a 58x crank reluctor vs 24x for the gen III. You can however convert the gen III to work with Gen IV software, remove the crank and remove reluctor ring and install a gen IV 58x, then replace front cover to gen IV setup. Also knock sensor are different, but doable. Good luck

You drill and tap the block to install the gen 4 knock sensors. Then weld up the valley cover basically where the old knock sensors use to be or seal it up somehow.

We explained pretty well how to run a gen 3 motor in your gen 4 truck. If you are dead set on running it as a gen 3 motor, IN your gen 4 truck WITHOUT doing anything that we mentioned.

Then i recommend you to:

1. Install a stand alone wiring harness for the gen 3 motor.
2. Hope for the best for the gauges to operate off of your Gen 3 wiring harness setup.

OR

You have this way:

1. Get a gen 3 motor and do as we mentioned
2. Just buy a gen 4 motor

The way I see it....

If you blow up your engine, you proceed to your nearest dealer and buy a long block 5.3l for 3800 bucks (5400 for 6.2L) and put all your Gen 4 stuff on our brand new gen 4 block.

No guess work....no rewiring...nothing. You'll end up with a brand new engine. for around $4000 with new fluids etc.

Or you go to a scrap yard get a gen 3, for 1200 bones (god knows $$$ for 6.2L) move some parts change some wiring, drill your block...etc...still have issues, spend more money and time get pissed off and sell your screwed up hybrid gen3/4 frankin truck and take it square in the wallet.
