misfire #6 then loss of oil pressure 2007 5.3 suburban
#1
So, I was cruising along bout 70mph and heard a pop. Maybe unrelated but 30-45 sec later the check engine light came on. Pulled code misfire number 6. New plug, coil good, swapped injectors, still skipping...checked compression and would get about 60 psi on the first stroke maybe, once I cleared the gauge I have 0 compression. Pulled valve cover number 6 intake push rod is down .25 inch or so. So I figure collapsed lifter but think its ok to drive a bit to see if it pumps up...wishful thinking maybe. Oil pressure good, no funny sounds and it smoothes out over 1000 rpms. I drive .5 miles and oil pressure drops and I hear either a knock or its the low rpm thump of the misfire. I killed it right away and had it towed to storage. I started it to move it 10 feet and it pumped up to 20+ psi oil. No noticeable noise? I am going to try to fix it myself. It has 139,000 miles and has the oil consumption issue that lots of 5.3's have 1 quart every 1500 miles if I had to guess. I owe a lot on this SUV and want to sell it. What's everyone's take on it? I'm thinking check the cam and stick another DoD lifter in it...
money is tight and this is the wife's truck so stock is ok.

Pull the heads and replace all of the lifters. The 07's particularly had tons of problems with lifters. Check the cam I've had a few of them lunch a lobe because the lifter beats the **** out of the lobe after it fails. The knock could have been the lifter's guts exploding and the loss of oil pressure explanation. When the guts come out of the lifter it's like cutting a artery on a human only all the oil pukes out the failed lifter and the bottom end gets no or minimal oil.
REally and honestly for what it's going to cost it would be more cost effective to find a newer lower mileage engine drop it in and go. These dod 5.3 are trash can engines when they crap you chunk them and start over.
