Default How to: declad factory rims

I put this is the GMT900 section because I'm not aware of any nbs rims tht come cladded, lucky!

Now, Decladding them isn't THAT bad. Te hardest part is getting the foam that hold the cap on to the wheel, off the wheel. Here's a few steps that I did, hopefully this helps some one.

Have the tire dismounted

This helps alot!
Look behind the rim, you'll see this

This is what we are trying to get off! I find the easiest way is not to beat it off with a hammer, but use a 3 foot long 1x1 piece of wood, and put alot of pressure on the back side of the cladding. Small guys might need a friend to help, this **** is on there!

The cap will let go

And you will be left with a mess

I find a plastic scraper and rubber hammer work best, get under it and work it off

Once you get all the foam off, your left with this

Now it's your choice

You can sand them down and polish them, paint em, powder coat, whatever floats your boat! I had mine powder coated low gloss black

Nice post, and the wheels look great! I humbly suggest some factory fender liners to clean up the look even more.

Looks familiar, i pretty much did it the same way, but went with a dark charcoal gray.
Oh and i started with a different wheel, the other gmc one so i guess they are the same...

I have a set of chrome clad OEM wheels on my NBS. I have been wanting to do this, but it has been too crappy out lately.

The point is they are still chrome clad and can be removed if the owner desires.

What do these wheels weigh with and without tires? And what size tires do you usually run with them? Maybe a mild all terrain, or a decent highway tire

Wieght without tire is 38 pounds. I didn't weigh it with the tire. I can tonight though.
I run the factory 275s on it for now
