Got a question for the guys who swapped to a 4l80, did you guys have any issues with the factory shifter cable on a 4l80? I went from a 6l80 to a 4l80 and my shifter won't hit 2nd or 1st gear. Seems like the shift lever on the trans is too long causing too much throw between park an 1st or my cable is just too short. I moved the cable bracket further back and now it wont reach park. The ones with original 4l60 trucks was your cable able to work on the 80e? My guess is it does and my only option to keeping a stock shifter right now is to swap to a 4 speed shifter cable and lever and get rid of my 6 speed shifter.
It's actually two pieces... The cable is self adjusting, and if you look inbetween the crane and body right where the drivers door is, you can see where they seperate. You may be able to get away with just swapping out the one part of the cable?
Or just try the self adjusting sequence? It may work.....
Just ordered part# 20787606 and 22833055. Thats the 4 speed shifter actuator and cable. Didn't show two different parts for the shifter cable, all one piece from what I can tell unless I just ordered the second piece your talking about.
The actuators are the same (at least they were in my 08) and my 4l60 cable works just fine with the 6l80. There are an upper and lower cable, as far as i could tell the only really differebce was the length of the boot on the lower section. Havent looked into any of the early nnbs hd trucks with a 4l80. Probably just need to adjust the cable, as mentioned its under the driver door, pull the white or yellow colored collar up and squeeze the two ends together and let them go and it will self adjust. Other thing you can do is to release the lock and go from 1st to park 10 times and it is supposed to adjust!! Ive always had better luck with the first method though!!!

Here's the self adjusting sequence. It's really easy to do, and I'm pretty sure all the gmt800 and gmt900 are like this. Not sure of other year models? The shift cable is actually two cables... In the first pic you posted, that's the trans side of the cable. The cable splits into two at the self adjusting part, but you don't want to take it completely apart for the adjustment of it, only if you're replacing that portion of the cable.
whatever you do make sure you buy the cable from GM..i bought one from the parts store and after a day of messing with it i couldnt get it right..bought one from the dealer installed it no issues at all
