I am planning on swapping out the gears in my 08 rcsb, 4.8L, w/ 4l60e, G80. After the gear swap is done I know i will need to get a tune done.

My question is can I still drive the truck after the swap before the tune is done? What codes should I expect to see thrown? Will there be any drive ability issues during that time?

 

Are you doing any other mods at the same time or just the gearing? Why are you needing a tune, just to correct the speedo? If I'm not mistaken, the G80 is all mechanical, so it shouldn't need anything changed. Maybe a tranny tune for shift points? But anyway, I couldn't see any issues with driving it, though don't quote me on that because I've seen some pretty random stuff happen that wasn't expected with the computers and that. Maybe someone more familiar with the electronics side of things will chime in.

drive it easy till you get it tuned. and i like the 4.10 gears better.
