Mark, after some digging it looks like we're both a little bit right, and a little bit wrong.

Stock '08 rear shackle orientation, with a 2" drop shackle:

And it looks like from this, the DJM flip kit includes the shackle flip.

So in regards to the OP, if the flip kit includes the shackle flip like the DJM does (not sure if they all do, from what Three6GMC said, it sounds like not all of them do), the "drop shackle" will indeed be a lift shackle.

Ah that's what it was. The reason why I knew is that 2 years ago I had said the exact same thing as you and was pointed out that the shackles were flipped.

I believe the problem is is that I had read there are clearance issues with a lift shackle on the NNBS. That is just hearsay information though.

Yeah I've read that as well, something about a clearance issue due to the shape of the stock hanger.

yeah not all kits are the same the one im talking about is the McGoughys kit which there flip kit consists of just a axle flip in the rear not a shakle and hanger which makes it a 7 inch drop......the kits that are only a 6 inch drop have the flipped axle and shackles to lift them that 1 inch

lol this suspension stuff is really confusing all in all back to the original question yes on a flipped shackle kit if you get a drop shackle it will actually lift it

ok now I understand why there was a confusion but now I'm confused on which flip kit to get.

I want a 7" drop but one that I could raise up to 6" when I have to?

btw, how good are DJM products. I remember hearing bad stuff about their front drops but I dont remember hearing anything about their flip kits.

I recently got a djm drop kit that I have not installed yet. The only problem with the front is the balljoints in the control arms, which is an easy fix just buy some MOOGs which im going to do.

The shackle orientation is identical on 88-10 trucks. A longer shackle will lower the truck. The axle flip kit yeilds a 7" drop on the 07+ trucks. Adding a longer shackle will lower the truck more. If you use the shackle flip, a longer shackle lifts the truck. For a 6" drop you will need an axle flip kit and the shackle flip and stock shackles. If you want to go to a 7" drop you have to remove the shackle flip and run the stock shackle setup

Beyond Static is correct. You cannot use a lowering shackle (a shorter one) with just a flip kit and the stock hanger for a 6" drop. The aftermarket shackle will rub in the inside of the stock hanger. I did this exact thing with my drop. Now I am just sitting at 7" with just a Mcgaughy's flip kit and if I want it higher, I at some air to my bags.
