My old company truck, '04.5 Dmax started engine hours over at about 6,000. Don't know why. No reflash, no programers.... Just noticed one day it only had a few hours. Kept on counting hours after that, just reset itself!

Battery problems have a way of resetting the engine hour meter for some reason. Happened to mine 2 weeks ago. Happened before that 1800 hours ago.

Hours goes up even when idling.

I just hit 121,000 miles, and have 2092 hours.

That's almost 58 miles an hour, fast truck. Like most, it's probably inexplicably reset itself before.

or it's mainly a highway driver for long trips. and it ain't so much an indicator of mileage but rather a potential indicator of whether it was driven mostly in town or on the interstate. the lower the average speed = more chance of a lot of stop & go, idling, and cold cycle driving (not driving long enough to get all the fluids up to temp).

it's a known issue that the hobbs meter can randomly reset, though, due to battery problems.

That would have to be an average based on exclusive high speed use, no city driving and very little time for fueling or paying tolls at booths.
