The 799 heads are used on production engines as well. They are essentially identical to 243 heads.

I had a similar issue with my 08 TBSS. Engine locked up solid at 350miles (hadn't even run the motor at full throttle yet). Turns out a valve spring broke, which allowed the intake valve to fall into the cylinder...it was ugly. My truck was only 5 days old. I fought and fought for a buy back. They weren't having it. I eventually got tired of arguing and settled for a new crate engine. GM paid one of my car payments to passify me. Now have 45k miles on the truck. No issues that relate to the replacement.

Hate to say this, because I don't normally think this way, but if I EVER have any type of engine failure, you can bet that I will drive it until I KNOW I will be getting a crate motor. The local service department will NOT be overhaulling my motor under any circumstances. Something for everyone to keep in mind.
This sadly is a true statement. If you shut it down right away, the engine is possibly salvageable. If you run it til it doesn't run anymore, you will get a new long block. It's unfortunate that people have to take this approach to avoid the possibility of a dealer rebuild. No offense to dealership techs, I know many of them know much more than I do, but I have met my fair share of ones that I wouldn't want changing my oil, let alone rebuilding the engine on a vehicle I normally should be able to get 300k miles out of.
