engine failure on 2011 silverado at 6k miles

I had a similar issue with my 08 TBSS. Engine locked up solid at 350miles (hadn't even run the motor at full throttle yet). This sadly is a true statement. If you shut it down right away, the engine is possibly salvageable. If you run it til it doesn't run anymore, you will get a new long block. It's unfortunate that people have to take this approach to avoid the possibility of a dealer rebuild. No offense to dealership techs, I know many of them know much more than I do, but I have met my fair share of ones that I wouldn't want changing my oil, let alone rebuilding the engine on a vehicle I normally should be able to get 300k miles out of.
