Got a couple of prices for the shaft. Both were pricing a 2 piece shaft and it looks like its going to run around $1000-$1200. Is this a good price?

Is a steel shaft better than a carbon fiber shaft?

you can get a good shaft for like 400 -600 < no need 2 spend 1k... get a Steel shaft . . the carbon are only good for high torque apllications, but not recomended for high speeds' thought. . and prob double the price '

Because my driveshaft is around 83" long, both places said I need a 2 piece shaft. Is this not correct. One place quoted steel, the other carbon.

I've purchased aluminum driveshafts for 2 different vehicles at
Dynotech_Engineering and have been very happy with both.

I highly recommend them.

carbon is gonna have a higher critical speed rating vs steel. it was nearly double in price when i was shopping for driveshafts. with a 2 piece there is prob no need for carbon unless you are talking about a 1 piece.

Holy cow! The driveshaft in my Avalanche was 72" and I thought that was long.

The longer the driveshaft, the more likely you will have issues with resonance, the more sensitive the driveshaft will be to imbalance, the more critical it is to get it right. With so many potential issues arising from an 83" driveshaft, you will definitely want to consider a 2-piece.

Correct, you would need to install/mount a center bearing onto the frame.

Ok I measured again. The shaft is 79 1/2" long. From end of shaft to center of ujoint hole is 1 1/2" on each end making the total length 82 1/2". From the front of the shaft end going toward the rear of the truck I have a crossmember at 16" from the front of the shaft end. So do I need a 2 piece steel shaft or aluminum.
