DOD delete without timing tensioner change?
#22
Based on what I know about the chain, I like the idea of having a tensioner on the slack side of the chain to prevent chain whip and vibration. But if I open it and it has broken, I will likely opt for a more mechanically simple solution. And if it isnt, based on the minimal data I have, it seems like a bad idea to potentially break the oiling system trying to fix something that very few are experiencing failures with. How many have you seen broken on trucks? Did they have low miles?

My personal 5.3 had it broken at 47k, my 6.2 had it broken at 19k, and a buddy of mines truck was broken at 53-55k.
It's all up to you
besides the LS2 runs the same style setup as you would be swapping to without any issues. Worst case swap to an LS2 timing chain (30-35.00)
I upgraded to a better timing chain with my rebuild

My truck has 125K on it and Im tearing it down this weekend for a cam swap so I will let you know how mine is holding up. I bought the updated tensioner and ls2 chain though, so I will be swapping those out.
