I did. It was an L96 with ~90k on it. It was not in the car though and I didtched VVT in preparation for going into my saab 97x. The tensioner was fine... but since I did a cam swap outside of the vehicle I changed to the LS2 style.

Just trying to gauge probability that ill have to change it out. Based on reading the G8/Camaro forums you would think there was a 100% failure rate with the timing tensioners. Obviously we have a couple examples here where that isnt true.

It's a problem with the Gen4 motors, its a simple swap, ease of mind that it wont cause issues later. So basically you are trying to save 23.00 for the tensioner, 10.00 for the o-ring and 30 minute job? That makes no sense.

Not trying to save any money. I am trying to determine if there is more risk to leaving the tensioner or in trying to R&R the oil pump. Most people seem to think the single bolt cam needs a tensioner rather than the damper, and, if you do happen to mess up the R&R with either the O-ring issue or with shaft centering, you will be wasting a lot more than 30 minutes to tear the engine apart again and get it right. It also seems like it is more than 30 minutes on a 4wd anyway to get the pan lowered enough.

Good question!! Ive been thinking the same thing.. i dread dealing with the oil pump and i thought if i opened mine up and the tensioner wasnt broke then i would just leave that bitch alone lol..
