Default DOD delete /cam nnbs 5.3

Hey everyone, from what I've read it seems you can't run a cam that has over .500 lift with the factory AFM/DOD? I'm really wanting to get a nice cam that will be nitrous friendly, but I don't want to deal with the bs of the DOD if it will rob me of potential power. I've read tons of threads of people that has started 'collecting' the DOD stuff for a nnbs 5.3, but has yet to do it. Anyone actually done this and wouldn't mind sharing their input on it? OR is there a cam out there that would still work with the DOD, but I could just disable the AFM?

Check out my "it's that time of the year" thread.
I just ordered my DoD delete list. About $400.

Do you need to replace the headgaskets as noted in the sticky, "DOD parts list?"

Yes, you will need to replace the head gaskets. After all if it coming that far apart you might as well. I opted for the LS9 gaskets for when the boost project comes along. My truck is an '08 so I went ahead and replace several other sensors (hard to get to ones) and several other gaskets, front of motor, valve cover, intake, exhaust. If your on a budget I was told "some" could be reused but I'm going to turbo my truck so I wanted as much as possible ready for that. Better safe than sorry, and piece of mind things are right. HTH

I'm just not sure I want to tear into the motor like that, yet. Is there a cam that can work with the DOD?

Not thats worth your time and money IMO.

If you cam it the warranty is toast anyways, so you might as well remove the weak pieces while you're inside.

Sigh... I guess I'll start collecting parts for it. Are the heads that on the truck now a decent head to get a P&P job done on them?

Which ones do you have? 799 or 243 are definitely good!
