Thanks! Yeah, I'm pretty happy with that. Now to start saving up for mods.

What did you do for that run (weight loss methods, driving technique, etc) to get that with your setup?

I had emailed Justin about the results of the last runs and he had me send him another data log, which he said showed the truck was running half on the bad-gas tables. That had probably slowed me down some, but Justin also sent me a slightly tweaked tune file. A couple months before this latest run I switched to E85, and stayed with it every fill-up to make sure the computer got dialed-in. I left my toolbox, spare tire, and all related unnecessary crap home (including my son) so I weighed in at 5,650 on my way to the track - that's 300 lb lighter than on my previous run. I ran in Drive, used the same 4x launch, shifting to 2x after the 1-2 shift, just like before. It was a combination of all that stuff, and I'm really pleased with the gain - 0.6 seconds is something like four or five truck lengths in the quarter mile.

Ok, good to know. Does it launch hard enough in 4x to make it feel worth the power loss? Do you think it would just waste the tires of you tried to launch in 2wd at a prepped track?

It wastes the tires on the 1-2 shift without slicks!! I feel the 4wd launch is very beneficial for someone running street tires...I like the fact that you can hold it to the floor with a 4wd launch and not have to worry about it cutting loose, makes times very consistent...but do not shift into 2wd until after the 1-2 shift or you will get a good bit of spin there as well...I too can't manually shift as good as the transmission does automatically, but I'm learning...

I'm mostly just too cheap to burn up my 33s playing drag racer, partly because I know it would take me a lot of expensive tire-smoking practice to get dialed in for a consistent launch. Launching in 4x is easy and like chanin6929 said, very consistent.

I launch very consistently in 4wd, but I am definitely slower than in 2hi so I never do; I can feel the extra drivetrain loss. I have never run on a strip though.

If you do ever hit a strip I'd love to hear your comparative times launching both ways. Got any near where you live?

Not in Yuma. There's strips a few hours away, but I don't really take the truck on long trips so I'm never in those areas. I would have to make a point of doing so. Maybe I'll give it a shot this winter and see what happens.
