so, riddle me this. how many of you have to add coolant every time you do an oil change?

mine has done this since day one. no leaks, no milkshake. it has been rumored that the l92 heads are the soft ones of the ls series. or they said **** it with the head bolts on mine at the factory.

either way, just curious.

Hmmmm I run my reservoir empty but I "thought" it was a bit low when i drained it.... I'll be watching

 

It's funny you should bring this up because my 2011 silverado was the same way and could never figure out where the hell it was going. Never could smell it from the outside of the truck and never showed signs of a leaky head gasket.

 

i take my truck in to a local dealership for oil changes, not that i can't do it, i just don't want to. just starting to bother me, more so than usual. just trying to figure out if i need to get another set of heads and have them checked out. do ls9 gaskets, head studs and lifters while im in there or not.

 

Im not a big fan of dexgoo for the record. I run the Prestone green stuff in my 6.2L in my car and in other LS engines with no issues. I do have that 6.2 apart right now but I'll be spraying the head gaskets with copper and report if theres any loss after next summer. Feel free to pump this or PM me later on in the year if I forget unless someone knows what what exactly that is

What issues were other people having with the these heads? just out of curiosity.

 

every now than then when i open the hood i can get a sniff of it, but nothing like a blown hg, or cracked head. more pronounced on e85 than pump gas though. which i find really odd. i know from the added cylinder pressure from the timing map change and fuel change it could present an issue, but no where near enough to lift the heads or narf the hg. it might be about 415-420whp at best on e, which to me is no where near the limit.

 

i can't remember if it was lg, or lingenfelter that reported on ls1tech that they were super super soft heads when compared to the 243's or lsa/9 heads.
