So about another $1,000-$1500 in parts and she will feel a little better out of the gate. I might as well save a little for a cam and gain a little more power right??

Well, yeah, but a little too much cam can kill your bottom end. Be careful and get some good recommendations from cam manufacturers and people on this forum who have a 4.8.

But I predict that you'll be pretty happy with your hole shot once you have gears and a high-stall converter.

When I looked at cams for my 4.8 TSP recommended the 212/218 with the stock stall. My truck also came with 3.23's..... it sucked! I swapped to 3.73's which helped out. I went a different route too save money. Worked great for me.. You can read all about it here
