2010 silverado gear swap results
#1
truck is a stock 2010 4x2 crew cab XFE with a 5.3/A6, lowered on 22s, bed cover
stock gear was a 3.08
driving to work and for the first 5 months of owning the truck i got 18.5 mpg, the drive consists of some stop and go and alot of 50-60mph driving
i recently installed some 3.90 gears
the same drive to work netted me 24.5 mpg on 87 octane! I have tuned the truck with Hptuners to optimize the active displacement. I also tuned the A6, removed the TM and zeroed the converter slip, a handful of other changes. the truck cruises effortlessly in V4 mode.
ill continue to test results this week and see how it does, i expected it to fall in the 22mpg range. 24mpg was a shock,
hope this helps anyone deciding on changing some gears. i really only changed them to help tow my camaro.

ebay gears, 3.90, 4.10s were too much money
gears 110 shipped new
pinion bearing 86.19 from dealer
55.00 ratch install kit from summit
125.00 install, friend i usually use
gears are as quiet as stock, but the truck runs like it should.

IMO, the average from one trip isn't really a comparison to a 5-month average. Run it for at least a month and it'll probably drop down a little. Your guess at 22mpg or lower is probably closer to the real average.
Still, great results.

just drove again for lunch, 300 miles on the truck, 23.5 mpgs, i can actually pull hills in V4 mode.
silverado1ss89- jeep srt8s are a ton of fun. mine was for sale but i couldnt part with it. sucker runs low 7s all day with some spray. hard to beat that.

Wow pull hills in V4 ........ can you elaborate on the afm tuning ?? ........do you think the gear swap also helps the truck stay in V4 ?
What cruise rpm to you get your best mileage at ? Towing with my old 5.3 truck it liked 2200 below that towing mileage fell off .trying to decide between 3.90's & 4.10's for my 2010 or tow in 5th withthe 3.42's
