Default 2007 GMC Sierra Cracked Dash

Hey guys,

I just realized the other day when cleaning my truck that I have two cracks in the dash of my 2007 GMC Sierra with 70K miles. After searching around a little I found that its a pretty common problem for 2007-2013 models. Has anybody else on here had the same issue? Is there an ongoing petition to recall these dashes?

I have thought about removing the dash and adding Dynamat to the entire thing or at least metal tape to the affected areas. Any thoughts on that? Or does anybody have a pdf for the dash removal?

My apologies if this topic has been covered to death, I haven't been on here in a bit.

My 07 is cracked in the exact same areas. Very common. I'm hoping they will recall this. I've sent emails over to GM and they always say they are looking into. I have an LTZ so the dash is a pain to remove. A new dash is around $500 if I remember correctly. I think the reason they cracked is 1) the dash is to thin and not very flexible and 2) the center of the dash is not supported so it bounces around causing it to crack on both sides. Every time is see the cracks it reminds me of the dash problems with early 2nd gen dodge rams.

Did you buy the truck new? If so I believe the dealership will replace it for $100-150. There are some GM techs on here I am sure they will comment. I believe the latest part # is updated and believe they reinforced those sections of the dash pad.

It helps if u cover the dash or put the windshield cover. I live in Texas and it gets pretty hot. Ive used the cover since day 1 and no cracks. Its a 2010 with 86000 miles. And the truck spends most ove the time outside.

Reflective windshield shade only way to prevent it especially with black sun just cooks dashes

I have an 09 ltz and mine just cracked about two months ago in the same 2 spots as yours seemed like they both showed up at the same time, I am still aggravated over that. Gm told me they wouldn't do anything about it though of course cause I'm at 118k miles but I could pay the $915 to have it replaced. Still debating on that cause I can't handle these dash cracks. Wish there was a recall for these things.

shouldnt have to take these precautions. my 2002 Camaro has spent its entire life outside in FL and CA. never used a windshield cover, never used a dash mat. no cracking.
