Default 2007 Avalanche has high oil consumption fixed by TSB

I have a 2007 Avalanche that has drivers side valve cover vent/pcv hole blocked. Was able to clear with oven cleaner (best degreaser). Due to poor design I am sure it will plug up again. Here is the jest of this post --original valve cover has the vent opening right on top of spring/lifter and sucks oil up into baffle. New design has vent opening at end of valve cover and not on top of an oil squirting lifter. I can not stomach over $100 for a new valve cover and would like to modify cover I have to act like replacement. Take my cover cut vent opening at end and cover factory vent with thin metal and 2 pop rivets. To me the calibration specification is already determined by hole size in nipple where hose from intake manifold hooks to valve cover.
