Thats great news... some porting of the heads and intake and I could make come really nice power. That sounds a lot cheaper than buying new heads. I have read about the L76 having more potential, but I didnt know why. Now it all makes sense. Thanks GMCtrk.

as listed:
CAI
Custom Tune
Catback exhaust (or you can just pick up a magnaflow muffler for a lot cheaper than a catback system IMO)
the 07 will be a more powerful motor vs the 06 Vmax bc the 06 is going to have a smaller intake.
Not anymore, OBX makes'em for $540 ship off ebay. I have a thread on them

Hey yeah thats my truck!

and it has intake, AR headers with their high flow cats and a magnaflow XL 3 chamber 30" muffler, a custom tune, and the Yank Pro Truck 3200 stall... It went 14.52 @ 91.8 mph twice. It is really consistent. Remember though that is with the truck being 3.5 inches higher in the front with 33" mud tires too. I bet it would run real low 14's if it had stock sized tires on it! I am putting on an ASP pulley too that I bought pre owned to see if that will help it at all... and hopefully with some more tuning it will run 14.40's maybe 14.30's or so...

Oh hey and there is something that you should know about the NNBS Vmax's, apparently they have some weird hydraulic lifters in there that collapse wit the Active Fuel Management 4 cylinder thing. So you need to replace them if you do a cam, and to do that you have to pull the heads, so its a pretty big job. I just wanted to give you the heads up. But that wouldnt stop me from getting a newer one.... they are just so much more refined than the 99 and up trucks.

My truck has drums... they only had discs with the Vmax trailering package. They got the rear discs and a brake controller in the cab. You could get them like mine that was just a vmax and not with the trailering package part.

so those heads are pretty good ones huh? how come? do they just flow good? and do yall think I could pick up any power if I had some port work done on the intake and heads them selves? thanks

Hey BadBowtie, what gears do you have in your truck? Also, thanks for the heads up with the hydraulic lifters. I knew they didnt like high lift cams, and that your AFM wouldnt work with them, but I didnt know why. What were you tunning before you had the converter in there? How do you like the headers? Did you think the performance was worth the money? I know ARH makes some great stuff, but they are very pricey (as are all good headers). I didnt know if they were really worth it without the other mods to go with them (like a cam).

As far as the porting... I obviously dont have any first hand experience with it, but I have read on other boards that the L76 intake and L92 head combo with some porting can be deadly. I saw a corvette with the LS2 and that head/intake combo with a cam that made over 500 RWHP. And if you have to pull the heads to do a nice cam anyway... then I say go for it.

Hey man, i have 3.73 gears in my truck. I wish it had the 4.10's because then i probably wouldn't change the gears. I think i wanna put 4.56's in there so its not overkill but would be a nice upgrade. I was running 15.0 @ 92 mph when the truck was stock height with the heavy factory LTZ 20's. Once I lifted it a big and had the bigger tires it was running 15.15 @ 91.4 mph... The 15.0's were with 2.45 sixty foots and the 15.15's were with 2.35 sixty foots. I have NO idea why it would have pulled better sixty's with the heavier mud tires but it did. Maybe it was the track itself? Because the 15.0's were at one track and the once lifted 15.15's were at another track. Either way I gained about 6 tenths with the yank converter and the truck feels so much better!

I love the headers. I install everything myself and they went on easier than i could pull the stock manifolds out of there. Quality is top notch and I think it sounds great with the exhaust setup i have. I kinda wanna make a youtube video about it. It sounds really deep and almost lopey like it has a small cam or something.

I dont know how to judge whether or not they are worth it HP and TQ wise because when I put them on there I got the truck tuned like 3 days later and then he took out al the factory handicaps and what not. Before it was tuned it was a DOG. It felt like it probably only would have ran a low 16 or something... when I put them on with the factory tune it sounded way better and maybe pulled a little harder... but the stock tune sucks so I dont think it was taking advantage of them.

With the truck how it sits now with the big mud tires and all the mods it dynoed 300 rwhp and 325 rwtq. I think the tires are definitely taking about from my numbers.

I'm gonna talk to my tuner about the intake and heads porting thing... we will see. I'm kinda out of money right now!

Let me know if you have anymore questions.
