Default Z71 = best street racing car out there?

it seems prety nuts to me but i might just have the best street car out there. i am racing alot of cars that are seriously fast at the track but they just can't run the same numbes on the street. i have raced quite a few 10sec and 11 sec cars and i always seem to be right there with them and often ahead at the finish line. how can that be? i am alomost sure i run a couple of tenths faster on the street, i seem to hook better and it is usualy prety cool at 3am when these guys run.

i didn't have a plan or anthing like that, just kept bolting on the next best part untill it got faster, alot of these cars i am racing run nothing but 114octane fuel, only get driven to race, never see the rain or snow, seem to have alot of mechanical problems.... none of these guys i am racing drives their car to work, tows anything or would consider taking it out during the winter.

so could it be that a z71 actualy does make a good street racing car and people just havn't caught on yet? i have learned one thing here, i will never build a "street" car that isn't all wheel drive, lack of traction is killing these guys. i believe i started a trend this year, i guess in years past everyone was racing on drag radials or street tires, since i started coming out many of them are running around on slicks and doing big smokey burn outs.

well I think the majority opinion is, traction is half the fun of the 1/4 game. a lot of people, including me, think using awd in the 1/4 is kinda like poking 2 holes through the bottom of a sack in a bean bag race. It rules out almost the main factor that determines a win in a 1/4 race. You take out traction in the 1/4, and the rest of the "requirements to win" list actually gets kinda small. imo awd should pretty much stay on the road course or on dirt, where its benefits last for longer than 2 seconds.

then again i cant help it, ill never be a big fan of straight forward 9-15 second racing, where it pretty much takes money, and not much else to win. Ive seen too many rich kids who dont know the diff between a cam and a crank shaft, pull 11 second timeslips out there ***.

oh well, just my opinion bash if ya must

u gotta remember though, straight 9-15 second races are the safest, anything else and it gets even more dangerous. plus, its easy to find isolated straightaways.

parish- a perfect example is a wrx, i have a freind with one. on the street he pretty much beats anything that comes his way. but when he goes to the track and the other cars hes racing have drag radials, then its a different story. personally i dont realy like awd. i like to feel the back come loose every now and then. and dont forget smokey burnouts

those 10 second cars may be runnning 10s or 11s at the track, but when they arent all setup with slicks and everything else, they are a good amount slower, and you are the same no matter what. thats the greatest part, thats why i bought my SS. While everyone else is complaining about slicks, im gone

Parish8 your truck is a combination that works well on both the street and track. The most important element of the combination on the street is a driver crazy enough to ignore the possible consequences(blown engine, crash or legal)this makes you hard to beat. You run the truck 10/10ths when the driver of the faster car you are racing backs off just a little(call it fear or good judgement it does't matter).Good luck I won't tell you to be careful because it's not your nature.

ehhe, im talkin bout under the hood. Figure your launch, and shifting, and you're pretty much set to go.

Greatest advantage to awd, is the consistency. Like whats his name said, on/off the street, you won't get much closer.

The WRX is a prime example of a ready to go, out of the box vehicle. A vehicle with complete potential in the 1/4. My friend has one as well (couple of you fella's here have seen it). Talk about a vehicle with potential. Unfortunately the tranny's are no better than ours, but, their consistency is great. We've worked on it a couple times, and its got some pretties under the hood, but lets just say only a few guys here should consider heads up on the street with tires. But like he said, get a rocket domestic on tires against any decently modified suby, and well, you know the rest.

I always give him ****, cuz he's never experienced true tire spin, and doesn't understand the concept of launching correctly for traction, not for just jump and spoolin.

Bit different when ya actually gotta consider tire psi, track temp, rear weight, etc.

but hey its all fun

well,,,, for me 1/2 the fun of racing is the **** talking before the race, i talk very little **** but i have a couple of buddys that try and get things going sometimes, i usualy let the other guy start the **** talking first and then answer with a 4car jump out of the hole , about 1/4 of the fun is beating the other guy and the last 1/4 would be the attention i get after the race.

as far as racing in a strait line i will agree there is alot less competition in that kind of racing but that is what i am looking for. i am not a good enuff driver or competitive enuff to do any kind of racing with curves.

me being crazier then those guys is partialy true but wrong in some ways too. your right i dont really care if it blows up, i can fix it and make it better even, that is part of the fun. my truck has to be safer than their cars though, i am not pealing out at 60mph, not on skinny little tire up front, not running loose suspension or 10psi in the back tires, i barely break 100mph in the 1/4, some of these guys are passing me at 140+(650hp supra) trying to get me in the 1/4.

best part about this truck is what i haven't done to it. STOCK 6.0 longblock, if i ever get into the motor i might just be unbeatable(on the street) unless i come up againt some 3000gt or wrx.

I am a big fan of understatement, and I think your truck has to be one of the best understated "sleepers" out there. There is just something about showing up at a race scene, whether it's on the street or track, with a stock appearing vehicle and getting little or no respect or attention. Some may even think it's a waste of their time to race ya, until they see you run that is!

Even though my truck is slow, nobody I race really expects me to be as quick as I am. I love to kick some 15 second fart canned, wing wearing flashy ricer *** with my 100% stock quiet as a mouse work truck. There is just something about showing them my 3 point hitch and farm tags at the end of the quarter!

Parish, you have a good setup. About the only way it could be better is if you had a C3, SS, or Escalade. I can't wait to see what that EXT runs that BigTex is working with.

Back in the high school days, I had an '81 K5 Blazer that won alot of races that it shouldn't have. Me & my friends would drive around the streets talking smack to the guys who were out cruising around with Dad's 5.0 or Z28. The ol' Blazer wasn't quick, but I could always blow them away off the line with a nice 4Hi launch. At some of the shorter 1/8th mile races I'd run it in 4Low and nearly pull the front tires.
