jeremy, check the weather before you drive down. i think there is a good rain chance as well as a event going on at the track. i was looking over on ls2.com southern section and they were talking about some event...

Yeah, I'm canning the trip. I heard about the event on the radio this morning, and the weather is looking pretty crappy for this weekend. I'm going to lay low and get some loose ends tied up on the truck.

you need that thing in the mid fourteens. if your gonna do the cam swap to expect 13's from it.
I was running mid 14's with a stall, rear end, posi, and tuning before I dipped into the 13's after the cam.
I am even running those slow *** Edelbrocks too.

Maybe my motor is just junk. Seems to run good, it's just slow. It does smoke pretty good when I'm runnin hard and it shifts though. I really hate to give up on her, but I want some return on my investments in parts you know. I'm gonna keep the truck no matter what since it's paid for.

i know where your coming from man. having the smaller of the v8's and trying to make it go. i had the same thing with my old z28. 305 and spent every dollar i had on bolt on's and other go fast parts just to get beat by the 350's with half the stuff done to them. whats worse, i would spend a bundle of money and do power packs and not see any gains.

i recommendation is go ahead and do the 6L swap.

Riley, my 99 with a 4.8L, superchips programmer, throttlebody spacer, Borla exhaust, and airaid intake went a best of 15.4 at Hubcity. That was on 17" wheels as well.

hold on there!
Edelbrock headers, LS1 Edit, K&N FIPK, & 160* thermostat arent going to get you into the 14's..
you are running about what you should be running.
maybe a low 15 with excellent conditions, but your expecting a fast truck with only a few mods.
since you have edit, you can mod anyway you want.
I say, swap the rear for a lower gear, and put in a posi.
get you a stall, and with those 3 things I garuntee a mid 14.
that is basically what I had on my truck when I ran a 14.6, including what you have.
once you acheive the 14's with that setup, then I would look into a cam that will help you get down further..
13's are acheivable, on motor alone with the 4.8L.
you just need the right mods to get there, and it takes a bit more than your conterparts with the slightly bigger engines..
but dont let them get to you, there are a bunch of guys with the bigger motors, that cant hang with the 4.8L, AND there are also several guys with the bigger motors that will wipe that *** with their bigger motors .
hope this helps you out here. dont get discouraged.

but you also might what to get that smoking problem checked out.
is it white smoke or blue smoke?

Thanks for the info there 01Thunder. You told me to get a stall a long time ago, and I should have listened. I just didn't want a stall with the stock cam, which is what I'll have to do. I'd have to do one then the other due to funds.
I like your idea on the posi with a 4.10. I've got 3.42 right now, with the limited slip.
It is blueish black smoke I believe. Usually only when it shifts.

hmmm blueish, is not going to be good news
you got probably some blow by. in one or more of your cylinders. do a compression check, and that should tell you right off the bat.
as far as the 3.42's deffinatly ditch those for a lower gear, and also get that stall.
gears, posi, and a stall with most deffinatly knock off almost a full second on your 1/4 mile times.
I promise. been there done it.
