what is the difference between a lq9 and an lq4? how much are they for a rebuildable one? maybe if my christmas bonus is big enough i can buy the one from Tootall...lol

I think the lq9 has a little stronger internals.

difference is pistons and rods, if you plan to replace those components then it doesn't matter which one you get.

high compression, flat top pistons, bigger rods (HD)
same 317 heads
same cranks
They're easy to rebuild. You can find a 04 and up, LQ4 "rebuildable core" and rebuild it with flat top pistons if you wanted to

i found one on ebay. i hear that the 6.0 conversion is a good mod to make.

Also in 04 both the motors had the same internals, other then the 9 still haven the higher comp..

LQ9 has flat top pistons and the LQ4 pistons have a small dish to them. The differences in the pistons give the LQ9 a 10:1 compression ratio while the LQ4 only has a 9.4:1 compression ratio. Both engines have 317 heads (except earlier years) and *I THINK* the LQ9 has stronger rods. Not sure about that....
