if you dont mind a few miles this seems like a prety good deal >> http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=y&cardist=300

or a 2wd right here >> http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=y&cardist=300

those are at dealers so they would drop some i am sure.
Are you sure? Because our old company truck for our boat shop was a 2000 2500 ext cab LS. It came stock with a 5.3 3.42 open diff. It was NBS too. The thing had a crazy amount of rake to it. It looked like ****. I guess the 6.0 was an option in the 2500, but 5.3 was standard. The 2500HD comes with the 6.0 and has the option of a 8.1/D-max.

Maybe we just got shafted at the dealership, oh well it wasnt my money anyway.

i have never heard of a 5.3 2500. everyone that i have seen was a 6.0/4l80e/4.10 gears. prety tuff truck really. maybe there are some oddball trucks out there i dont know about. lately it seems like you can get all kinds of special power options.

All 2500's and 2500HD's come with a 6.0L and 4L80E, if they were sold in the U.S. The 2500HD's have better towing ability, however the 2500's have a decent weight rating also.

So if I pick up this 2500 Sierra with the 6.0L in it I'm looking at, what kind of power do you guys think I need to get it into the 11's? I'm looking at a custom turbo kit I'll be building, aftermarket heads, cam, and all the boltons. Stock shortblock until it lets go.

I'm quite sure the 99+ 3/4 ton trucks never had the 4L60. And what rear end you get is whatever was ordered, usually 3.73 or 4.10. I'll never buy another 1/2 ton truck. They are built for soccer moms who will never use them as a truck. Used 3/4 tons cost about the same as 1/2 tons but come standard with 4L80's. That saves you $3-4k in trans rebuilds or 4L80 swaps. The HD's are bad *** too but the body is mounted so damn high on the frame, you better like the 35" mud tire look.

Get yourself a K2500 4x4 non HD for racing. Try to get one with as deep of gears as you can. 4.10's would be great. You could run 11's on the stock motor, trans, drivetrain if you wanted. A nice built motor and it would run 11's all day.

Yes, GM did build a few of those gems in 1999 & 2000. I nearly bought one. You could only get the 5.3/4L80E combo in a reg-cab longbed 2wd and a ext-cab shortbed 2wd. All 4x4's and the ext-cab longbed 2wd came with 6.0/4L80E as standard equipment. I guess in 2001 GM got smart and made the 6.0 as the standard engine across the board. The 5.3 2500 trucks were mainly built for fleet customers, but anybody could get one.

slyws6, if the one you are looking at is a 4x4 and has the pushbuttons keep a good eye on the transfer case. If it goes you can kiss about $2000 goodbye.

Thanks guys, the one I was interested in has been sold so I'm still looking. I'd even take a 4x4 1500 Extended cab if anyone has one they want to sell.
