Default What should my brother and i do?

So my brother has a 85' crew cab C20 and he needs an engine, he's thinking about either dropping in a 5.3 with a 4l80e, Carb or EFI?

Or a 91' 5.9 12v Cummins

any suggestions? He already has the TH400 and i told him to just keep that
With the 5.3 He might go FI Not to sure yet. The truck has 4.10's and it is his daily

He will probably want an overdrive transmission with that Cummins, unless he has really tall tires.

Is he looking to have towing power & torque, or does he want to go fast & race?

Something more on the lines of a fun race truck, what trans should he use if he wants to go with the cummins with overdrive. we're trying to make this truck 4wheel drive. we already bought a donor truck but FWIW i think we'll just keep this 2wd and maybe drop it
Original plan was to lift it but they make no lift kits for a 2wd

id say 12v with a 4l80 change turbo and sum pump work put the 5000rpm spring in the pump and theres a control spool in the pump that retards the fuel at start up change it out and it would be a fun cruiser should get damn good milage..
