Default What to keep in mind when shopping for 6.0

My Tahoe is an 06. I plan on getting a short or long block and refreshing it to drop in. My budget is tight. Are there any differences between years I should keep in mind? I have a feeling I need a 2002 or later but I don't know why. Is that the case or does it not matter?

Thats what I thought. I found an 03 shortblock I'd probably need to go through and freshen up but I think I'll wait until I can find an 05 or later. Thanks.
