They didnt know what a 4l80e was until I told them its the transmission behind the 6.0 from the factory. Called back and asked about torque converter suggestions and they gave me the phone number to the guy I already deal with for transmissions. A girl answers the phone and reads off generic replies. I told them they aren't much of a performance shop if nothing is done in the shop. They outsource then markup everything.

Also got told the 4l80e swap is possible with enough money, I asked how much and they gave me their tow truck drivers phone number and said "ask him how much the tow charge is to national speed in Wilmington NC."

Anyhow. I'm gonna attempt the tranny swap when I get home. Might start the engine swap next weekend I'm not sure

Sorry for the double post but god works magic.

Got a phone call. I bring the parts and the transmission. I give the guy my old torque converter. In return he will swap out my old transmission, go through the 4l80e and "beef it up" with a shift kit, let me choose the converter I want for the ls1 I have now, and ride out the door for $600. Said when I come back hell swap in my 408, and let me change torque converters to something more suitable for 400. I'm probably going to do that. Those prices sound not too far outrageous to some of you? I'm only doing it because I get to pick a torque converter off his shelf trans and converter get a 1 year unlimited mile warranty.

He's a friend of my dad.

All my trans work and installation and a custom built torque converter for $1000?

I'm providing the rebuild kit so his $1000 includes the shift kit and some red eagle clutches (I believe is why he said) to go with my rebuilt kit. The labor and fluids and the price of the torque converter are all included in the $1000.

If that's a bad price I can keep looking. I don't know much about transmissions, labor costs, or how to rebuild them and I'm not gonna pretend I do. That's one of the positives Of using this site . The guy is at the track every weekend so id assume he know what he's doing. All the cars I've seen him in run high 9s or better. I don't wanna be a dick to him because he's a nice guy. He told me to shop around prices an he'd be waiting this weekend when I call him back lol

Bite! A rebuild on a 4L60E costs more than that with installation.

I've already been through 2 4l60e's. so I decided before it happened again I'd get a 4l80e. Trans broke a third time, but luckily I got $400 in the initial cost of the 4l80e, 1000 in the rebuild & installation. That's 1400 total in the purchase, build, and installation of the 4l80e. So it's not too bad considering the prices I've read from some people.

Jump ALL OVER THAT before it gets away. That's a hell of a deal.
