Default went to the dealer today.....

dropped the truck off this morning for steering shaft replace.get a call from the service guy sayin they cant do any warrenty work because of the different cluster i have(ss) its not the correct mileage. so i ask him how much it would cost to reprogram it to the correct mileage.he calls back later and says it cant be reprogramed because it has miles on it already, they can only do them when there 0 mileage.and no i didnt put the sticker on the back of the new cluster . am i screwed here or what??can it be changed with hp tuners???

can not be changed with hp tuners. put the original cluster in it and bring it to another dealer. don't give them any crap cause they could document it and have all of Your warranty cancelled.

Well us fellow GM dealers know that SS Clusters didn't COME IN ANYTHING BUT AND SS. And it's not that they are being a dick about it, we've just encountered alot of milage fraud by people changing cluster and not documenting the correct milage. If you want to change your cluster, go ahead and buy one, but take it to a dealer and let them flash the new milage into it, and stay on the safe side.

As far as the Original Poster goes, I'd do whatever they asked, and nor give them any trouble because they can induce a Warranty Block on your vehicle, and if they wanted to get specific they can report a VIN Milage Fraud Complaint to the DMV and have your Title Branded. And trust me you don't want that or the legal reprocussions that may follow.

TW im pissed cause they say they cant change the mileage in the ss cluster.they stated they can only do it with 0 miles.. this true??? all i eally gotta do is get the sticker for it or get the old cluster and have them power it up so they can see the mileage.but i and both of those are a 1000 miles apart

I work for GM and its true, the only time you can change the miles is when the cluster is being replace and being reprogram from GM. Once you have the miles program and press enter thats it. Just did one on a Tahoe few weeks ago.

You can't program mileage with a Tech 2. They're upwards of around 4 grand or so, last I checked.

TW gives good info. I too have to deal w/ going back to dealer on the steering shaft, a couple other minor issues, & the cluster needs to be replaced. I want an SS cluster but could see this happening. I'll have GM give me new cluster since it's a recall anyway. After I get outside my warranty, about 25k miles, maybe I'll do SS upgrade. I feel your pain but I also see the other side too.
