Warranty Work
#1
Tried to take my 08 Silverado (4900 miles) in for a rear main seal leak. Dealer closest to work is a GMC lot and they refused to work on it. Dealers swears GM won't let him and GM CSR says its up to the individual lot. What makes it even more retarded is that this dealer has a Chevy lot as well, just not at the same location.
So I ended up taking it across town to the Chevy lot I bought it at on my lunch break. And Im sure I will have to drive back across town again tomorrow to get a rental, etc.
I was already frustrated with a rear main leak on new truck, but this really pissed me off.

The leak appears to be pretty common with the NNBS 6.0 owners. There is a TSB that suggests replacing the rear main and crank position sensor seal. We'll see what they say.
But yea, there is 0 mechanical difference between my Silverado and a Sierra. I could buy Silverado parts at the GMC dealer, but no service? I guess its a marketing issue or some bs.

They got it apart today. They said the rear engine cover was leaking. They said they were waiting on parts, I'm assuming they are replacing the rear cover seal. Said I should have it tomorrow, we'll see if that fixes the leak. I'm not optimistic. If it was leaking from the rear cover, it would have had to have been in the middle. It was not leaking at the corners where it meets the oil pan.

That is common so far my friend....I've seen at least one a week here at my shop. It will turn out to be the front pump seal, gasket and torque converter o rings. Takes about one day to complete the whole job.
As far as for the Original Poster, I agree that's bullshit! My dealership here is an all brand GM dealers so, we work on everything. The mattaer that they said GM won't let them is bullshit. GM will let you cross-warranty as long as your the closest dealer. I would call the customer service nember in the back of your owners manual, and tell them exactly what happened and how you are affected by it. Who know's, GM may comp you and you may get a free oil change out of this deal.

I did call customer service. They said were the ones that told me its up to the dealer. I guess its different in Houston than in your area. Its not hard to find a GM dealer, but I wanted a convenient one as well.
I ended up taking it to the dealer I bought it from which took me a total on 1.5 hours of drive time to get there, have them drive me home, and get my extra car to go back to work. Then of course, they offered me a rental that evening since (BIG SURPRISE) it will take more than 8 hours to fix a rear cover leak. Which would have meant another 1.5hr drive to go get the rental. That is why I wanted to use the GMC dealer....oh well
