Doesn't the Ford C4 use a servo/piston for the 1-2 shift? Superior makes a heavier apply servo for it as does someone else I think. From my memory it uses the forward clutch pack for 1st, then forward+band for 2nd, and forward and direct for 3rd. It's a very basic design just like the TH350 (what it's similar to somewhat)

Do you have a built valve body in it? Manual...automatic...reverse manual?

No - stock trans - 81k - I got a new vac mod to put in - is adjustable
I plan on dropping the pan Tues night
While I was in there .....??
It has an soft 1-2 shift - but doesnt do it all the time.
Most of the time it is slight, easy take offs.
On more aggressive take offs - most of the time shifts OK - but not always.
Any suggestions.
Thanks for the repsonse Hit

Oh wow a stock C4! LOL I hardly ever seen one not behind a Fox framed Ford now that's fully built.

I think that vac modulator should allow you to set shifts...

If you're feeling up to it, a TransGo is only like $55 for the C4. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

That will get your shifts as firm as you want them.

Also it could be the band is getting old and worn...

Oh well all you'd do is drop the valve body and swap a few springs and open the feed holes in the seperator plate. Valve bodies on 3 speeds are laughablly simple. Tranny stays in the vehicle so there's not a whole lot of tearing down. I believe that the TransGo has some way to raise WOT shift points...at least in their AOD kits they have that.

Where are ya located?
