Want to move to Texas...

Was just curious what some of your opinions might be on where to live.
I want to be close to good fishing places, not too big of a city unless it is spread out (I hate places like San Francisco or our Bat Area), somewhere between Dallas and Houston/Beaumont. I'd like it to be somewhat wooded. None of that desert crap you always see Texas portayed as in the movies. I guess essentially on the outskirts of either Dallas or Houston/Beaumont. I am looking to buy a decent lil house for about $200K and DO NOT WANNA BE NEAR ANY GHETTO AREAS!!! That's why I am leaving Cali behind.
My friends that live or lived in Texas have me mixed up. One grew up in Dallas and said go there because Houston is too hot/humid and the city is falling apart. The other lives in Beaumont again after a brief stint in Ca. and says the humidity isn't that bad and it's a nice area to live in and the houses are decidedly cheaper there than Dallas. Also finding a job shouldn't be too hard i either place compared to Ca. i assume.
Any suggestions??

What is it with Texans and wallpaper? I have looked at a ton of homes for sale and a lot of the houses have ugly wallapaper in new styled $230K houses. LOL
Anyway, seems like you get a ton of house for that kind of money compared to the Dallas area. Is it because not as many people wanna live that far south? Is it because it is on a floodplain or something?

I like it here it doesnt freeze or snow here that much.
think the last time it snowed was in the late eighties.
dont have to worry about the putting that crap down on the roads.
anything above I-10, will freeze bad in the winter, if you live below I-10 you might freeze a little but not that bad.
dont know why but that is ususlly the boundry line for freezes here.
Like if it where to freeze tonight, 02Denali would get the worst of it, and I may wake up in the moning with a little frost on the windows. but up in Dallas it will snow it's a$$ off.
not for me. I like it here. )
oh and you get used to the Humidity.
I have been out to Cali, about 30 miles east of the bay area, in a town called Tracey Cali.
had some races there at the asphault track they got there.
now that is really diffrent weather than you get here. it's really dry there.
here when you step out side somedays, you can actually feel how saturated the air is with the Humidity.
but like I said I have lived here for 28 years, and I am used to it

Tracy is about 80miles or so form me at most but the climate is the same where I live, maybe a bit cooler but not much. You can't rightfully call 110deg summers cool. Then again we have been fortunate this year and barely ever got above 105.. Odd But yeah, it is a very dry heat here, feels similar to when you open a oven and that blast of hot air hits ya. Cali is weird. I am about 2.5hrs from our cold *** beaches, 1.5 hours from about 5 different Ski Resorts and a tiny house in the Bay Area can go for $ 1 million.
My 4yr old 2450sq.ft house is worth $400k+ and I am on the outskirts of Sacramento which used to be cheap. I bout the house in 01' for $233k
I had no idea it snows in Dallas.

Better than this beach

LOL, J/K. That is the nude beach right next to Stinson which is the beach I usually go to.
So what are the beaches like there? I'm not really concerned with white sand and waves. I am more into the wildlife aorund the beach and in the water. Are there any kind of reefs of any type? I'm bit time into saltwater reef tanks and if the water is of similar chemistry it woul dbe cool because I could get easy water changes for my 210ga reef tank.
The beaches themselves here are pretty but I could care less really. Most of the time I can be found in the tidepools or trying to find creature in the water. LOL
