Default wanna buy a Tahoe, I think. 1st post here

been a ls1tech member for years... don't venture HERE to much, till the last few weeks here and there. Plan to spend LOTS more here. I have been a GM tech for years, working on ALL GM vehicles but, lots of time was spent on the truck and Y body platforms. I love the Tahoe's,..and with my budget, I can probably buy one for about 5k tops, without hurting my house hunting.

I found a Z71 for that,...I am interested in it but, I am curious how BAD the mileage would be. All I can find documentation wise is that the 2WD and the 4WD are CLAIMED as the same fuel economy ratings... 13/17. Is that real world for you guys that have them? Or are you getting better/worse with tunes/mods?

I drive a 6cylinder truck right now daily, about 25miles on the highway to work each way..@about 80+mph.....I get about 19miles I think @3500rpms....in that pos. So,..a larger truck,..CLOSE to the same ratings, stock for stock, ain't bad. I have access to tunes/and efficiency mods(turbo or two ) to help her out.

Anyways, if any 2wd/4wd dudes could post up, that would be awesome. I am trying to make a decision by tomorrow.... as I need to make plans for my weekend.... am I gonna buy a truck, or bust my *** on cars? lol.

So please, feed me some info, I would greastly appreciate your personal results and input here on ownership.

Thanks so much in advance,
Jamie

Most Tahoes with 5.3 engines will see about 13/17. With certain performance upgrades the number may rise or fall, depending on driving style. My city mileage is currently about 11MPG, highway mileage is about 21MPG.

I get 14-15 around town and 16-17 on the interstate in my 2001. I also have 33's with 3.73 gears, intake, muffler and tune. It is only a few thousand shy of 200K miles and have not had to replace anything major. However, the suspension is starting to get a little sloppy so I think it is time for some bushing replacements.
