Default Trans temp at transmission port

What should the trans temp be at the port on the driver side that is plug from factory?
Truck does not have external cooler other than the lines on radiator.
still running mechanical fan clutch cooling off engine. Engine runs about 200 dergrees.
my 2000 auto 5.3 4x4 regular cab long bed is reading 165 in town driving in od drive gear position.
stay at 150 to 155 trying to see if stomping on it 165 is high as it would go.
I just had gauge installed today.i want to Get a average for about a month before i install a cooler.

thank you

Those temps sound right for everyday driving while not towing anything.

My 2006 ran around 150-170 and so did my 2010 and 2012 trucks with a 6 speed auto.

Last time I had a temperature gauge in the pressure port it showed Temps 10* warmer than the factory temp sensor in the valve body.

But those Temps are reasonable.

Trans temp in the stock setup will eventually settle at a few degrees above the temp of the water in the cold side of the radiator; since that's where the cooler is. There's no temp gauge in that, so it's hard to know what it is. It'll always be below the "engine coolant temp" though, since that's the temp on the hot side of the system, before the coolant gets cooled by the radiator.

Could be anywhere from 150ish on a very cold day cruising down the highway, to 210 or so on a hot day idling. 165, the last few days where you are, means most likely, that the whole thing probably wasn't all the way warmed up. It takes a good while for the temp to stabilize.

This of course, just driving; not towing, or abusing, or otherwise stressing it out.

That said, if that's really the temp you have during normal usage the way YOU use the truck, then it's fine. Much cooler than usual, if anything.
