Default Tranny Temp Guage?

If i were to buy a autometer tranny temp guage can i wire my truck (without tranny temp in main cluster, obvioulsy) to show it. If so where does it wire up to? The computer or the main gauge cluster? Thanks for any advice.

I believe all trucks have the wiring already for it. You just need to get the cluster than has the little tranny temp meter.

I bought a new cluster (for the 2500 Avalanche) that has has a tranny temp gauge in it, since the stock one for my 1500 Avalanche didn't. It was $225 from SpeedoTach. They even transferred over the mileage.

Nice looking install!!
Did you use the cluster pin-out for the temp or not? I remember reading that the signal from the ECM to the cluster is not compatible with any aftermarket meters...do you know if this is correct?

dpends on if you want to shell out $200 for a trans temp guage.
I didnt and saved over $150 bucks.
the install that I do is real clean and proffesional. I like it, and it ads to the cluster.
although you can only do this mod for year models 99-02. 03 and up, they changed the circuit board around, and the is no way to fit the guage in there with out screwing something up. So the 03 and up, guys, only option Is to purchase another cluster with a guage in it.

yeah
LS1csherm sent me his cluster, to put one in his, and when he sent it, I was not aware of it being an 03.
but I looked at it anyways to see if I could do it, and GM, totally redesigned the whole board. right where the guage would go is a couple of resisters, and some connectors for what looks to be where the stock trans temp guage would connect to. so needless to say I shipped it back to him and informed him that I was not going to chance ruining his cluster.
But if you have a 99-02 cluster it can be done
