Tig welding can screw up electronics and such. Phones can literally go bad if they are in the presense of tig welding and especially credit cards. It has to do with the high amount of electricity i guess and it messes with any electrical devices near the arc. You may have messed up the remote, who knows.

Hey everybody. I read the instruction how to reprogram on my remote. I been struggles and didnt work. Even I already put new battery on it. Maybe I not do right way from the instruction? Even I tried put key in ignition ON position same time hold down push unlock button till I turn ingition off, on, off, on, off then off the unlock then Then hold down the lock and unlock buttons . Then wait till 30 sec I ahead click lock and unlock then turn the ignition on position. Then I test with my remote. It not work.

Go5.3tt06, like 02slow4.8 said, the TIG may have toasted it. When I had a job as a welder's helper we were always reminded to keep our walkie-talkies, pagers and employee I.D. swipe cards out of the TIG stations. That was like 15 years ago, (before small cell phones & keyless remotes were common), but I imagine the same rules apply there today.
Might see if you can borrow a GM buddy's good spare remote and try to program it before spending cash on a new one that may or may not work.
