Do you have the updated intermediate steering shaft, the one with a nylon bushing it?

Pop the hood, unbolt the bolt in the middle of the shaft, pump the shaft in and out about 10-15 times to grease it up, put it back together (make sure you don't twist it or your steering wheel will be 180 degrees the wrong way and you will have to repeat). Lasts about 6-8 months and is free. Been doing it for the last few years so I can spend money on more fun things.

There is NO RE_CALL ON INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFTS! Whoever gave you your information is incorrect my friend. Trust me, I do this for a living. No re-calls on the steering shaft on any trucks. There is a GM Technical Bulletin which advises you to remove the shaft and "stroke" it 3 to 5 times or simply replace it.

I would just replace it. I replaced mine and what a difference it made.

Talk to Torque_Wrench about getting one he is a great guy to deal with.
