Check out a local windshield repair shop and they might sell you a tube of what they use.

thanks, I'm not all that happy about having to cut the old window frame out as its bound to take some factory paint with it

You might be OK if you are careful. If it was me I think I would let the guy who does it every day do it or at least get some pointers if it doesn't look to be to hard a job. That job may require an extra set of hands to position the glass and cut out the old glass.

The glass shop may not charge too much to do it. I would give them a call or better yet drop by and ask for some pointers.
