Question Should I buy it and mod it or pass it up?

I'm looking at a number of different vehicles to buy right now from F-bodys to Suburbans. Whatever I get, I'm building it. I'll do the bolt-on stuff first and go from there. I just stumbled across a 2005 Chevy 1500 HD 2wd with the 6.0L. It's in great shape and I can get it for a decent price. My question is: Is it worth modding? I figured the engine and tranny would be worth it, but what about the suspension and rear end? If not I'll pass it up. Would it be better to buy a 1500 (not HD) with 5.3 and build that?

You'll have to excuse the questions. I haven't built a truck in 12 years; the last one was a 77 Chevy RCSB with a carburated 350, no pollution control crap, and no computer.

Thanks in advance for the help/advice.

If your trying to go fast I would look for a rcsb truck wit a 5.3, it will def take less hp to go as fast as a hd truck.. But a 4x4 truck thatgets down is cool too

True. But even though I'm building it for more power and speed, I may have to haul the family around in it ocassionally. RC isn't 'practical' in that case. Oh, and its 2WD.

The 2500hd will set you at an advantage in the aspect that everything is already beefed up on it. It has the 14 bolt rear end, the 4l80e transmission and an lq4. The only problem is that it weighs ~1500 pounds more than a 1500 truck. That 1500 pounds is the biggest killer behind going fast.

It's a 1500HD, not 2500

Ah I read right over that for some reason. It's still going to be a heavy *** truck, but not 1500 pounds heavier.

Ask Moregrip - albeit he has a 2500HD, but it is modded very nicely
