Default Shortblock rebuild

Is there any books out there that have assembly of an LS1 block? I know a lot about motor assembly but just want to make sure I get everything right the first time.

The factory service manuals are a good place to start, it mentions the tools needed to realign the front timing cover and rear cover, and it also mentions the torque specs if you plan going with factory bolts.

Didnt know you had to realign the iming cover a certain way I just put the bolts in and went on down the road of coarse my **** blew up a week later but it was due to something else. Factory manuals are good and there is a book that has all kinds of crap about these engines in it Ill see if I can dig up the name for you.

It has everything you need to know and more. Talk about bang for your buck. I did my cam install off of this book and only paid $18.99 for it. Having somebody else do it would have run like $500. has everything from free mods to all out racing motor builds. great book!

They have another one with a similar name that is helpfull too. I think its high performance LS1/LS6. Just a little difference in the title, the cover is white with a pic of a vette LS1 on it. I advise getting both. Some good info in both of them.

Yea, I read that too before I did my cam swap, seemed to be overkill IMO...I just put a thin layer of grease on the lip of the crank seal, lined the cover up, and tightened it down. I think that as long as you're careful you'll be OK.

I also noticed that Will Handzell's book mentions a special tool for installing the rear cover/seal. That would be something I'd be more concerned with as replacing the rear main seal is a bit more of a PITA, especially on a 4x4.
