Default Shopping for some slicks

Hey guys,

I've been shopping around for some slicks. I have been looking at hoosier and M & H. Looking for feedback on the size and which one will hook better. The M & H is one of those cheater tires with the grooves in it. I'm not going to be using these on the street, so I wasn't too worried about DOT regulations. I'm not sure why, but I have been aiming towards the hoosier. So far, unless I hear better otherwise, I have been looking at 28's. The hoosiers are 10" tread width and the m & h is called a 12.5, but the tread width is 10 also. Do they both have wrinkle walls? I've never had slicks before, and just want to invest in something thats gonna work. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Tim

I went with M&H radials after my ET Streets were all used up (28X11.50x16). Both hook up great. I don't get the bias-ply sway on the big end with the radials like i would sometimes with the ET's. If you've never run on any type of drag tire before the radials will prolly "feel" better going down the track than will the bias plys.

Are you guys running these on the stock rims? The minimum recommended rim width was 8" and max of 10". I know that the stock rims are somewhere around 7" maybe 7.5". I have 3 spare rims and was thinking about cutting the rims and make 2 wide rims out of 3 stock rims. My dad thinks I'm crazy, but I think I could do it. I won't if it's not necessary tho. Thanks for the input.

I think most are running the stockers and they work just fine.

I don't seem to find any radials in a 16", on summit racing anyways.

Would radials make a big difference? I know they track better, but I'm not going to use them on the street, just at the track. Is there any other advantage to them?

Are these hoosier I'm looking at wrinkle wall? Someone told me that makes a big difference.

my M&H's are on 8" wide wheels. a bias ply tire and power is gonna wrinkle the side walls. radials are gonna be faster at your power level.

How come a radial would be faster? Not arguing, just curious. I know nothing about these things right now. I just figured that they are both round, sticky, and go down the track. I heard the wrinklewall helps with the launch tho. I was concerned that with the skinnier than recommended stock rim would hurt the performance of the tire. What is the width on the steel rims? I think it's 7.5".

just as slowride said...the radial tire with have less rolling resistance than a bias ply tire. gotta have power to wrinkle the side walls. you can buy a 8" steel wheel for about $50.
