Default "SECURITY" message comes and goes

Getting the "SECURITY" alert on the message center from time to time while driving. At times it will only be on for a short period, but at other times it will stay on for many miles of driving. Usually it goes out on its' own, but if it doesn't it goes away on the next key cycle. The fuel pump is not being disabled so I believe this is a phantom fault. I replaced the key at the dealership, but the "SECURITY" message came back using the new key. I sprayed a little graphite into the lock cylinder too. Any suggestions or a fix by someone who has had this intermittent problem would be a big help. I plan to remove the steering column cover and clean the electrical connectors. Truck is a 99 with 85K on the clock.
