Security light on/key won't turn

It was the lock cylinder. Is the pass lock sensor part of that?

The lock cylinder is inside the Ignition Lock Case. The Ignition Lock case has the Passlock sensor inside it. The Key Cylinder is removable from the Lock Cyl;inder case.

That does sound right. The key cylinder can go bad quite oftern and you have to replace it with a new one. But the downfall to that is, you have to re-tumble the new one to accept your existing key.

How much are they charging you for re-tumbling the cylinder and then replacing the assembly?

The locksmith said 3 of the 10 springs that drive the pins were broken.

yeah...that sounds right..,..that's actually commonplace with those key cylinders.

Yeah,and the Security light was on only because the door was open.
