I can't speak for everyone else but I gained zero mpg when I did mine. I definitely gained horsepower and it spins up a lot quicker with the weight off the front of the engine. I like keeping the coolant at the set temperature you want (195 degrees in my case); I didn't like seeing 220 degrees on hot days adn hated the jet engine noise when the fan clutch was engaged. The biggest plus, in my opinion, is that the air conditioning stays cold all of the time; even when idling in hot weather for extended periods of time.

Will you gain power? Yes. Your freeing up power by not having to spin a mechanical fan.

Will you get better mileage? Yes. Again your reducing the load on the engine, thus using less fuel. However is that amount of fuel measureable? No one can tell you that for sure. But the theory of less drag = less fuel consumed, makes sense.

I will be putting my ls1 fans on this week, and ordered the harness from Nelson performance. I talked to allen about it, he said like 2 weeks ago he dynoed a truck before then after, and it picked up 3rwhp. Not huge, but every bit helps. As for milage, i think it will improve. I mean logically it should improve, but i guess it varies wtih different driving habbits.

I never really noticed an increase in mileage but, you could definately feel the engine accelerate faster. It was about the same affect as an underdrive pulley had.

I imagine the hp difference on the dyno would depend on whether the fan clutch was engaged or not.

it defiently sounds better when you can't hear the engine fan sucking all the time. I like mine for the same reasons the others have posted.

What brand of fan was he trying to sell you?

No MPG #'s but Avalanche is right, the biggest bonus is having the AC blow ice cold all the time. Before I put them on mine, bumper to bumper traffic in austin had the AC noticably warmer. After the fans, cold all the time. Big plus down here..... And the engine definetly spins up quicker.

It's funny that he said 17hp because I just installed a set on a friends truck last night. Before I removed the stock fan I logged two runs with EFILIVE. I'm not sure how accurate the hp calculator is but it did infact gain 17hp with no other mods.
