Default Racing in Drive vs manually shifting??

I can't seem to find anything else on this so I figured I would ask. Just out of curiousity, whether racing at the strip or on the street is one better than the other? I've noticed when racing on the street in my 5.3 rcsb, if I leave it in drive and floor it, when it downshifts to 1st I spin a lot because of torque management being completely gone. It doesn't seem to spin as bad if taking off from 1st and manually shifting through the gears. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

3rd gear. No reason to manually shift.

I always shift manually. You will Def have more control in a gear instead of letting the trans pick it for you.

Only time you need control of what gear you are in would be for street racing. At the track put it in drive and go!

its not any easier, just keeps you from going into OD at WOT (which you don't want)

With an 80e selecting drive will engage low roller clutches helping holding power .

Btw the only shifting I do during driving is between drive and overdrive , no reason to manually shift if your tune is setup .
