Default Purchasing New Truck very soon

Well im new to the forum guys but i think you could all help me out, im planning on getting an GMC 05 4x4 Sierra 1500, and i got it around a price that fits my budget and im wondering if you would change anything? Red tag is close to 28, i plan on getting a lift a few years down the road but id like to offroad with it a little until then, id ont know much about the rear axels so i didnt know if what it was set at already was good enough, take a look thanks. Another forum recommended that i get the vortexmax package but i cannot find that on the site when i customize the truck.

I would go with some lower gears. Preferably the 4.10s. With the 3.42s the truck is going to be a dog on take off. For $100 more... its a pretty cheap upgrade.

And yeah try to find a vortexmax. They are the hottest thing out right now. 345hp, HD tranny, 4.10 gears...

Hope this helps.

just some things i suggest, after making a few regretable decisions (some of which are now fixed) and some "thank ******* God I did that"

1. Manual t-case. I am so damn happy i dont have pushbutton. what a pain in the dick.
2. biggest engine. go Votec Max. you WONT regret it. I promise.
3. 4.10 gears. More power, longer trans life, marginal effect on gas.

Good work on the other choices. I wish I had leather though. Leather just makes the vehicle seem "nice"

Leather gets cold as hell in the winter and hot as hell in the summer I hate it but it does clean up easily. Find a VortecMaxx for sure it gives you the HD tranny 345hp LQ9 and a 9.5" rear end instead of the wimpy *** 8.6" that we are normally stuck with. It is going to add a couple of grand I would think but it will make you alot happier I promise.

You'll be glad you bought the VMAX if you're going to hang around this board. The LQ9 is a great place to start modding from. 4.10's don't suck either and we'll see how well this new 4L70 holds up...
The leather seats (in mine) are heated so they aren't bad in the cold.
Good luck with it!

The way I look at it is this. If I can't afford a few more thousand for the biggest motor then I shouldn't be buying it anyway. The only reason I have what I have is because you can not get a 5 speed with a 5.3 or larger and you can't get a 5 speed with an extended cab, unless you go 3/4 ton of course. Having to go with a standard cab and a 4.8 just allowed more money to mod it the way I like it.

ive added all of what you guys suggested except the other engine choice the only ones on both the 05 and 06 are
Engine: Vortec 5300 V8 with 295 hp and 335 lb.-ft. of torque

Is it not available on the Crew Cab? Also if you guys maybe had time could you piece it together so the package was there and tell me what you did?

I wish I had 4.10s right now. man that 6.0 HATES cruising at 1800 rpm (70mph).
I get better gas milage at 85mph

the 5.3 is like a beefed up 4.8, but the 6.0 is just totally different. the torque is all over and MUCH better down low. Unless i'm WOT, the thing never downshifts. Its like 3/4 of a diesel.

Im pretty hard in judging engines and such- but this LQ9 is a fantastic. I'm very impressed with it. 345/380 doesn't begin to do it any justice. Maybe its because I have a tune and catback

Anyway, get an LQ9 and a tune asap.
