Default Post your list of REMOVED mods, and why!

This thread is interresting,
https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...1&page=1&pp=10
but it got me thinking of all the things I've taken off the truck for various reasons.

1. JBA Cat4Ward Ceramic-Coated shortie headers
- Two different sets of these cracked under boost. $1100 lost.

2. BBK 80mm Throttle Body
- In a very short time the blade started sticking.
- Poorly made, sloppy clearances. $400 lost.

3. Flex-a-Lite copper capilary probe fan controller
- Was never successful in stopping leaks caused by this.
- Replaced later with VSC and have had no problems with it. $64

4. Fully-Built 4L60-E
- Although it never broke, it wore out in only 36k miles.
- I never should have put a dime into that POS trans. $1700 lost

5. Pair of Magnaflow/Carsound OBD-II compliant 3" catalytic converters
- I got 8000 miles out of these.
- Elements dislodged and broke up.
- Magnaflow calls these "performance cats", they are NOT. $360 lost

6. Jet Shift Control
- Bought that MANY years ago to make shifts more firm.
- We all now know bad it is on a 4L60-E to raise line pressure. $120 lost

7. 10.5" 14-bolt conversion built by DriveTrainDirect
- Bearings fell apart and I nearly lost an axle.
- The company wanted nothing to do with the repairs.
- DriveTrainDirect can burn in hell. $2800 lost
- (I now run a SF converted 14-bolt from Tom's Differential - much better)

8. Upgraded 65lbs/hr auxiliary injectors for the Whipple.
- Ran too rich on the 65# ones. Throttle response was great though.
- I have other plans for fueling that do not need aux injectors.
- Included 42# aux. injectors are back in right now. $190 lost

9. 3.5" aluminum driveshaft built by Inland Empire Driveline
- This actually worked fine but did not allow enough lateral movement.
- Gear Vendors O/D uses a very short slipyoke.
- Replaced with a splined 3.5" steel shaft with fixed yokes. $780 lost

10. Gibson Dual-Sport stainless cat-back exhaust
- All "catback" packaged systems are too restrictive for FI. $650 lost

11. Protorque 10.5" 4L60-E torque converter, 3000 RPM stall speed
- I loved that converter - worked perfectly.
- Actually sold it used for $200, so $800-$200 = $600 lost

12. Hypertech Power Programmer III
- Alone it's almost worthless for a FI engine.
- Used it only to program gears, tires, and top speed. Lost $350

13. Hypertech Supercharger Module
- Used this to set shift points. PP3 alone doesn't let you pick MPH
- Both of these were obsoleted by TunerCAT. Lost $190

Some of these things I have pretty bad feelings about, others were just a learning experience. There's a difference between a part that failed and one that did exactly what it was supposed to but wasn't right for the job.

Hypertech PP3...never got to use it's program, due to corrupting my PCM!! Raised hell with the dumb asses at Hypertech and got my PCM back...which didn't Fu**ing work!!!, a new HPP3(which I sold for $225). I called those ***** back and they basically told me to F**K OFF!! So after spending $120 for a tow and $80 to have my PCM reprogrammed, I lost $150!! ($350 for PP3, sold for $225, $200 to fix truck)

My problems seem small compared to yours James.

1) Gibson single-in/single-out sweptside catback
- Forgot what I paid, probably around $400
- Pure junk. Sounded like crap, resonated from 1600-2200 RPM

2) Flowmaster 70-series big block muffler
- Paid $100, welded with dual tailpipes in place of the Gibson
- Interesting sound, poor flow, bad for a blown vehicle

3) McGaughys 3.5" drop springs
- Same spring rate as stock, wishy-washy feel, $149/pair
- Put the Eibachs back on, about 1" higher, but much better handling

4) T/A diff cover for 10-bolt
- Paid $150 or so with stud kit
- Panhard bar in the way, wouldn't fit

5) GM/Bosch 160 Tahoe Police Package Alternator
- Paid like $170 I think
- Connectors different, wouldn't fit

I know there's more, but I'm sure I'm blocking it out.

Curious what your fueling plans are James....

Oh yeah, forgot about the Hypertech. I had one of those WITH the rip off S/C module too. I will have to add that to my list.

I have a Gear Vendors O/D behind the 4L80-E. I used to have it behind the 4L60-E too, it's just a different adapter kit.

To fuel this in the future I will be installing the Multiport EFI manifold from the Marine version of the L31. I've already got the manifold and all the extra stuff needed to get that going. It will have 36# injectors which wok out to a little more with the 4-bar Vortec fuel system. I've got 69K on the factory shortblock now. Compression is still perfect but someday it will be swapped out for a low compression 383.

fueling that shouldn't be too hard. here's a friends L31 that has handled as high as 15psi. Link

over the years i've removed too many parts from customers cars.

hotchkiss rear springs for 70' camaro (actually sat down on the tires at as installed height)
any throttle body spacer. (good for holding paper down).
ed wright and hypertech programming (i do my own programming now)
narrow band a/f ratio gauges (good for annoying you while driving, nothing else)
MSD wires for an LT1 (i'd like to find the guy who did the work on them and...nevermind)
crappy shift kits and line pressure mods (can't remove them fast enough)
chrome alternators (what a good way to retain heat)
e-fan turn on kits (way too simple to just make the computer do it and at the right time)
aftermarket mass air flow sensors (not much to say there)

just a few
