Default Is it possible to get the E-brake cable grommet back in the floor?

I've never been so frustrated in all of my life. My thumbs are killing me from trying to get the grommet back in the floor. I fought with it for probably an hour trying to pry, jam, twist, gradually work, hammer etc it in. It will not go!

On top of that I realized I have an extra nut that I couldn't find out where to put it back in. It is just like one of the three nuts with the attached washer that holds the e-brake assembly to the body... only smaller.

This is on a 99 NBS 1/2 ton.

Can anybody lend a hand to me? I don't want my floorboards rusting out and I don't want to drive around with a crucial nut that I forgot to install.

Try lubricating the grommet with some silicone...sorry I can't help you with your nut though.
