Im assuming those scratches are deeper than they look? Did you recheck the clearance before you pulled it out? What crank is that?

That is a stock crank. I didn't check the clearance. The engine is still in the truck. You can catch your fingernail pretty easy on the scratches. It feels like it was polished with 40 grit sandpaper.

The crank was turned .010/.010 before running it for a total of about 5 15 min cycles.

I installed the wrong o-ring in my truck about 3 years ago and it starte sucking air after time and making my lifters tick. Weird thing is that my pressure was always above 40 at idle. It didn't rise much with rpm, but was never low. Until this past winter when it would take a couple seconds to build pressure.

Pulled it apart, saw the little blue o-ring...

Slapped a fatty in there and all is well.

After getting the engine out and on the engine stand, it didn't look so bad. It wasn't perfect, but I think I can save it. I will post up pics later.

As far as the O ring, it was installed properly. Something weird I saw today was that the red O ring is actually blue. I got 2 different new ones, and one looked almost dirty. I wiped it off with brake cleaner, and next thing you know it is blue.

Here is one set of bearings. I will try to get more pics soon. I still don't know what caused this. I am very clean when I do an engine like this. I seriously will wash my hands 45 times during an assembly. One of the problems may be that I assembled it at my father's shop. My two brothers and father are always doing work in there. I was working on my engine One day, and my father was sweeping the floor with a dust cloud like pigpen. I'm not complaining, but he just has no idea how clean stuff needs to be when there is an assembly going on. Another possible cause could be the crank. When I picked it up from the machine shop I noticed 2 chips in the journals. I asked what happened, and the owner told me that someone backed over it. I told him I wasn't happy, and he turned it .010/.010. I assumed he checked it for straightness, but by the looks of some of his other work he didn't. Now I am really wondering.
