Default oil gauge 80 psi

When I got into my 06 sierra cc today I noticed that the oil psi is pegged out on 80. I checked the oil level and it was good. Does this sound like the stepper motor going out or went out? If this sounds like my problem does anyone have a part # or how hard is this to fix. When I turn the key forward it goes to 80. When I start the truck it goes to 0 then back to 80 and stays. Also a 5.3L. Any help on this please thanks. Brandon

Check ebay motors for that cluster. I believe there was a guy in florida rebuilding them on the cheap.

Stranger ranger thanks for the input but it stays at 80 psi no matter what rpm. I think its in the cluster like you said.

The 03-04's were notorious for cluster problems, and I hear of cluster gauge failures in other years sporadically. Actually don't hear of too many sending units failing, but it does happen obviously...a lot of sending units get replaced from guys snapping them while removing the intake or engine lol.

my 05 cc is actually pegged at 80 also. the same exact way you described. im leaning towards the sending unit as being my culprit also. i just replaced my knock sensors about a month prior to my gauage being pegged. ive reaced back there and its plugged in good, so i guess im gonna replace it one of these days. mines been pegged about 3 months now...

Yes mine just started doing it and it just bothers seeing that gauge like that even though I know its not that high, well I would hope not. Where is this sending unit located?

You could try installing a "real" oil pressure gauge instead of relying on the so called dummy gauge, if you really wanna know what your oil pressure is.
