Default Oil Cooling

Guys,
I just bought a takeout 6.0 for my truck. Came from a 2500hd and with the attachment on the oil pan and hoses to the radiator for oil cooling. Wondering what to do now.

Three options as I see it.

1> Use the oil pan from the 5.3 in my truck and do no oil cooling.
2> Buy an aftermarket oil cooler and thermostat and install them.
3> Buy a new radiator with the oil cooler in it and have the factory setup.

I'm thinking third option. Think oil cooling isn't a bad idea. Second option can almost get as costly as a new radiator if done well. Especially after being able to sell my 6 month old 34" radiator.

What do you think?

I would do option 2. That way you can monitor your temps and possibly get better cooling than the OEM setup. I am guessing that is why you would get a thermostat, so you can hook up a oil temp gauge, right?

Do number 2 but without an oil thermostat (junk). If you got this route buy two #8 or #10 AN weld-on fitting and have them welding on and install a cooler. This article explains this method.

NO 1 is no need, you just need to remove the cover from your oil pan and install it on the 6.0s oil pan but then you will lose the oil cooler ability.

NO 3 is just wasting your money, unless you live in the far north then it will be must.

I think an engine oil cooler is a must, before I installed my engine oil cooler I was seeing temperature around 220 during the summer. Know it never gets above 180 in summer.

I vote for option #4......Use a 10mm socket and remove the 2 little bolts and swap the blockoff cover from the 5.3 pan. Oil cooler is unecessary complication/weight. Keep it simple.....

Need a thermostat to allow the oil to get to at least 176F think I read. It is for proper performance and keeping the engine sludge free. Good chance it wouldn't, especially in the winter, without a thermo.

Overkill IMO amazing how everyone else can get away without an oil cooler. If you have extra money laying around go for it. Its not like a trans cooler unlike atf, oil needs to be pliablein order to provide proper oiling you dont want it to be too cool or you will get the sludge effect. I wouldnt and I wont put a cooler on mine unless I was building my truck to tow heavy loads then it is needed.

Yeah I'm gonna block it off. No cooling. Thanks for the input guys. Now I can spend the money on a meth injection kit.
