oil change light

To reset your Oil Life on the '99+ NBS trucks you put the ignition to the ON position (vehicle off) and push the gas pedal down 5 times quickly and then shut the ignition off. When you put the ignition back to ON the Oil Life indicator will blink three times and then go dark and that's it, your Oil Life is back at 100%!

Thanks for ruining a good joke.
I can usually get people to sit in the passenger seat and buckle up, adjust all the mirrors out, open the gas cap, open the tail gate, pop the hood, and take the dipstick out, and touch their nose while turning the key and pumping the gas pedal three times....... It's funny as hell because they think you are screwing with them until the oil light re-sets..........

P.S You only have to press the gas pedal down three times.........

Not from what I've heard. The oil life is masured, using engine rpm, number of starts and a buch of other factors. no of which have to do with the type of oil and or the viscosity... I maybe wrong......

You're right, the computer calculates run time, mileage, # of starts, etc. and determines when to turn the light on...it has no idea what oil is in the engine. I had my oil change light come on shortly after I had reset it once, but then I remembered that I had swapped PCM's that weekend lol.

I do mine. Its just 3 times, some people just get carried away when it comes to pushing the gas pedal.
It also determines if you've done alot of highway or city driving based on how long you stay at steady rpm's and i've been told it can also determine if you haul a trailer alot.
about 95% of my driving is highway, i change my oil every 5500. this last time i didn't until 6k and my light never came on.
